This medical illustration series compares a normal sigmoid colon wall with that of a sigmoid bowel diverticulum. The exhibit shows that the sigmoid colon wall is comprised of four main layers: the mucosa (or mucous coat), the submucosa, the muscularis mucosa, and the serosal layer.
